Here’s a look at election changes before the vote in October

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Tomorrow marks exactly two months before we head to the polls in the civic elections.
There are a few changes you can expect this year, according to Elections B.C. This will be the first round of voting since the NDP government brought in the Election Amendment Act last year.
Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Nola Western says one of biggest changes is the limit on campaign spending. “For instance, in Vancouver, the mayoral candidate has a spending limit of $210,174.60.”
But not all municipalities are created equal; take Gibsons, for example.
“The limit in Gibsons, the mayoral limit is $10,000. And for a councillor in Gibsons it’s $5,000. That’s they’re spending limit. And for a councillor in Vancouver, it’s $107,793.”
The other change is the ban on third-party donations. “So now, only individuals can make a contribution to a candidate or electoral organization. The individual has to be a person that lives in British Columbia and is a Canadian citizen or a Canadian permanent resident and they can only give $1,200 a year.”
Election Day is Saturday October 20th.
