SURREY (NEWS1130) – Just hours after a targeted shooting in the Clayton Heights neighbourhood, Mounties in Surrey are investigating an overnight homicide.

Mounties were called around 2 a.m. to 65B Avenue and 131st Street, where they found an injured man on the road. he was taken to the hospital, but died a few hours later.

IHIT Sergeant Bari Emam isn’t saying what caused the man’s injuries but he says there is no indication the killing is gang-related. He says he doesn’t know who the man was or how old he was. No arrests have been made.

A whole block of 65B Avenue was behind yellow tape this morning. Police also have the parking lot of St. Bernadette Catholic School blocked off. The principal of that school has told us classes will be cancelled today.

People in the area say a lot of fighting happens in the neighbourhood. Some say drug use is also common.

One man tells us it isn’t safe to go out at night. “Sooner or later, I was expecting something big to happen. It sure did. It was just a matter of time.”

He says this is the last straw and he’s planning to move.

Police have not said whether a fight led to the man’s death.
